We are excited about this year’s Band of Bloggers. Each panelist has played a pivotal role with Band of Bloggers and the Young, Restless, and Reformed Movement. At our first Band of Bloggers (April 2006), we were thrilled to have Tim Challies, Justin Taylor, Albert Mohler, and Russell Moore as panel speakers, and six years later we are even more happy to see that Justin and Tim will be joining us again. Collin Hansen who coined the phrase “young, restless, and reformed” and wrote a journalistic book about it will also be joining us. And for the first time, Kevin DeYoung, perhaps the most prominent Reformed blogger online has agreed to contribute his thoughts as well. And I’m grateful for my good friend and fellow moderator, Owen Strachan, will be helping me lead the discussion at this year’s gathering.

You can get a more detailed description of each panel speaker below. Needless to say, I can’t wait to get together and enjoy an hour of fellowship and great conversation about what God has been doing in our lives, churches, and broader evangelical culture to draw us into His passion for His name!

Tim Challies (twitter)

Tim is a leading evangelical blogger, pastor, and author of two books, The Discipline of Discernment, Sexual Detox and The Next Story. Co-founder of Cruciform Press, Tim lives in the outskirts of Toronto, Ontario with his wife and three children.

Justin Taylor (twitter)

Justin has been blogging at Between Two Worlds since 2004. He works at Crossway Publishers after working at Desiring God in Minneapolis, MN. Currently, he is an elder at New Covenant Bible Church in St Charles, IL. Justin and his wife live in Chicagoland with their three kids.

Kevin DeYoung (twitter)

Kevin is the Senior Pastor at University Reformed Church (RCA) in East Lansing, Michigan, right across the street from Michigan State University. He has been the pastor there since 2004. Kevin was born in Chicagoland, but grew up mostly in the Grand Rapids, Michigan area. He is the author of Just Do Something, Don’t Call it a Comeback: The Old Faith For a New Day, Why We’re Not Emergent: By Two Guys Who Should Be, and more. Kevin is married to Trisha. They live in Lansing and have five young children.

Collin Hansen (twitter)

Collin is perhaps best know through his work for Christianity Today and especially his first book, Young, Restless, Reformed: A Journalist’s Journey with the New Calvinists. He is the editorial director for The Gospel Coalition. He has appeared as a commentator on Fox News, and his work has been featured in Time magazine.

Tim Brister (twitter)

Tim is the Director of PLNTD Network and also serves as a Pastor at Grace Baptist Church in Cape Coral, Florida. He is the founder and coordinator of the various Band of Bloggers fellowships. He also organizes the Roots Reading Initiative, which focuses on providing church planters targeted self-feeding opportunities through an informal structure and accountability. Tim is married to Dusti and they are the parents of three growing children.

Owen Strachan (twitter)

Owen is the Assistant Professor of Christian Theology and Church History at Boyce College in Louisville, Kentucky. He has published six books on Jonathan Edwards and has written for publications like The Atlantic, First Things, and Christianity Today. He is married to Bethany, and they have two children.

Six years ago, two movements began to gain significant traction–blogging and the young, restless, and reformed. Additionally, 2006 was the inauguration of the Band of Bloggers fellowship, and since that time God has brought gospel rental in many ways to evangelical life, including the development of organizations like Together for the Gospel and The Gospel Coalition, the upsurge of gospel literature in publishing houses, the growth of church planting and revitalization networks, and continued reformation in local churches. Throughout this period, the role of the internet, blogging, and advances in technology have played no small role. At the 2012 Band of Bloggers gathering, we will take a look back at the past six years and consider the impact–good and bad–of blogging and technology in the Young, Restless, and Reformed movement. We hope you’ll join us as we look forward to how we can best leverage our lives and steward the resources for the advancement of the gospel!

The purpose of Band of Bloggers gatherings is to forward the discussion on gospel-centered blogging and leveraging our online influence for the glory of God. On the side, we have been able to enjoy a great relationship with publishers and various ministries who are happy to give away copies of their newest releases to our bloggers and attendees who in turn promote, excerpt, and review them in the future.

When we began Band of Bloggers in 2006, we were thrilled to donate one book per person. Since then that number has continued to increase until last year where we were privileged to give away 12 books per person. As we started planning this year’s gathering, I was very skeptical about the possibility of increasing that number. Fortunately, we received great assistance from John Starke of TGC Reviews, and together we were able to secure a total of (wait for it) . . . 17 books ($237 value) for all everyone attending this year’s gathering!

Here’s a complete listing of the books for this year’s giveaway:

Last week, we announced the 2011 Band of Bloggers taking place in conjunction with The Gospel Coalition National Conference. One of the significant changes we are taking this year is the format of our gathering being more “flattened” and intimate. Our goal is to engender meaningful participation from all attendees in the spirit of our theme – The Gospel Procession.

Having said that, the 2011 BoB Gathering will be smaller than previous years with a capacity of 150 attendees. That means registration will likely fill up fast (registration is now closed). Aside from the free books and dinner, we believe this event will be one you will find profitable for the kingdom of Christ as it relates to intentionally leveraging our online influence for the advance of the gospel.

Registration for this year’s event is $25. Once we have reached 150 attendees, we will unfortunately have to close the registration for this year’s gathering.

Once again, I am thrilled to announce to you that the 2011 Band of Bloggers gathering will take place in conjunction with The Gospel Coalition National Conference on Tuesday night, April 12, 2011. This will be the fifth year we have hosted an event like this, and we are excited to bring a new format to this year’s meeting.

The theme for this year’s gathering is The Gospel Procession. A procession entails a concerted effort by a community to catalyze a movement, and in our case a gospel movement. A lot of talk is talking place on the Internet regarding being “gospel-centered,” and what this theme seeks to do is invoke the participation of all those who love the gospel and desire to leverage their lives for its advance in every sphere of their lives. Therefore, the purpose and theme transcends the gathering and endeavors to see a gospel procession take place through our blogging and influence on social media and other various online networks.

I have asked ten other men to join me in facilitating this meeting. During our event, they will moderate round-table discussions as well as participate in panel discussions on related topics. The men leading this event are:

Justin Taylor, Tim Challies, Joe Thorn, Steve McCoy,
Jared Wilson, Trevin Wax, Justin Buzzard, Collin Hansen,
John Starke, Owen Strachan, and Tim Brister

We are less than one week way from the 2010 Band of Bloggers gathering(!), and I want to give you an update as well as answer questions that some of you might be asking.

The Band of Bloggers gathering will be taking place in the Combs-Chandler Room of The Galt House. It is located on the second floor just above the lobby area. While the gathering begins at 11:00, you are welcome to come early to hang out and also allow us to check off registration in a more efficient manner.

As previously mentioned, we are sold out for this gathering. That means we cannot take any registrations at the door (as much as we would like to) and will not be able to provide giveaways to those who have not already registered.

For those who are registered, you do not have to provide proof of your registration/payment at the door, but we will ask you to verify via email address and those who may have registered under you as well. We did not send out registration confirmation other than what you received from Paypal for payment confirmation (again, bringing it will not be necessary).

The Galt House is located just two blocks north of the Convention Center and can be accessed either by skywalk or on the street. Walking time is less than five minutes. We will have you out in time so as to not miss the first session of T4G. Parking is available in the (2) parking desks of The Galt House, although they tend to fill up fast.

After our four presenters give their talks, there will be opportunity for you to participate in the discussion by asking questions from the floor. The discussion will be moderated by Owen Strachan who will gladly welcome your contributions to the discussion around this year’s theme.

Anyone willing to volunteer for this year’s gathering can email me at timmybrister[at]gmail[dot]com. Thanks for registering, and we look to see you this Tuesday!
