Phil Johnson Joins Band of Bloggers Panel

    By Timmy | April 4, 2008

As we making last minute preparations for the upcoming Band of Bloggers fellowship, I am happy to share with you that we have extended the invitation to Phil Johnson to join the panel this year, which he has graciously agreed.  From day one on the blogosphere, Phil has been a very influential blogger, and whether you agree or disagree with him on various issues, we all can state that his presence is significant and undeniable.  Moreover, Phil has a compelling voice in the evangelical world regarding contemporary issues, and we look forward to his contribution in discussing “The Gospel Trust”.

Here is a brief bio sketch of Phil:

Phil Johnson is Executive Director of Grace to You, a Christian tape and radio ministry featuring the preaching ministry of John MacArthur. Phil has been closely associated with John MacArthur since 1981 and edits most of MacArthur’s major books. Phil also pastors a group of 500 adults collectively known as GraceLife at Grace Community Church in Sun Valley, CA . He stated blogging on a whim in June 2005 and can’t stop. His blog, PyroManiacs, features two first-rate co-authors, Dan Phillips and Frank Turk, plus Phil’s nearly-mute sidekick, Pecadillo. Elsewhere on the World Wide Web, Phil is best known as the curator of The Spurgeon Archive and The Hall of Church History.

      True Story:

The first time I met Phil was over lunch one day, and when I told my wife that I was going to lunch with him, she asked me, “who’s that?”

So I told her, “He works for John MacArthur, and he’s the curator of the Spurgeon Archive.”

      “Curator of what?”

“The Spurgeon Archive. It’s a web site that keeps many of Spurgeon’s writings on-line for easy reference.”

“So what makes him a ‘curator’?”

And I kinda looked at her. I didn’t really know what to say.

“Just make sure he’s not another one of your weird internet friends. OK?”

It was the Fall of ‘05 when I first came across blogs in general, and the Pyromaniacs in particular. It’s a great ministry, and the guys have a lot of fun with it. I’m looking forward to meeting the Team in a few weeks…

      Frank-

LOL. That’s grand! I’m surprised your wife didn’t have anything to say about you coming to BOB, seeing as its a complete gathering of “weird internet friends”!

      Weirdos Unite,
      ‘BH

I am counting on you BoBs to change my wife’s mind about the character of those who participate in internet ministry.

      Change… or irrevocably sour.

Oh, nm; she’s already met me. If she remembers it.

Frank, Dan - for just these reasons my wife isn’t coming along…

Seriously, am looking forward to meeting you guys, Phil and many other residents of blogdom, face to face.

You know, this may be way off into the left blogosphere…but if any one is courageous enough to “date” themselves….I remember BBS’s and local area get togethers that are eerily similar to such a thing…well except those were seeking to glorify Christ! Amen for such a significant change of direction eh? Now, back to BBS’s. The internet actually wasn’t a stand alone monster before?
